Bold and the Beautiful Comings & Goings: Justin’s Back! Gets Luna out of Prison?
You’re listening to Soap Dirt, the latest in television entertainment news. Hey, Bold fans! So, Justin Barber is back soon in our comings and goings update. I’m wondering if the sketchy lawyer is the one who gets Luna Naawa out of prison and back on the streets to terrorize everybody again. It’s Belinda from Soap Dirt, and we are going to talk about the return of both Aaron D. Spears and, of course, Lisa Yamada, and what is coming up for both of them on the CBS soap. And hey, please click subscribe if you are not following us.
While we don’t have a return date yet, Aaron D. Spears did confirm that he is coming back as Justin Barber, and the timing is pretty interesting. This week, Bill Spencer gets another disturbing letter from his not-daughter, Luna, from behind bars. The girl is still unhinged—utterly, utterly unhinged—and she’s looking to get loose. She is still clearly fixated on Dollar Bill. When she convinced Poppy to show up and visit her last week, Luna was trying to sell her mom on the idea that she’s still her sweet little girl. She claimed she didn’t know what came over her and wasn’t herself. Then she used those two magic words: temporary insanity.
Yes, people were saying in the comments that she needs a good lawyer and others said she needs a psychiatrist. I wasn’t going to go into the whole thing, but now I am. Yes, you need a psychiatrist to make that diagnosis to help with the defense, but you also need a really good lawyer to make it happen. The psychiatrist doesn’t just walk in and do that for you. Poppy and Luna do not have money, which means Luna is probably relying on a run-of-the-mill public defender—one with a caseload of a hundred other clients. Those are not the kind of lawyers who put up a good fight to get someone out on an insanity plea. They certainly can’t afford a top psychiatrist as an expert witness.
A good lawyer is step one. Luna needs someone like Justin Barber, plus someone with deep pockets, like Bill Spencer, to cover those legal fees and pay for a reputable psychiatrist to diagnose and testify. A top lawyer in L.A. like Justin probably charges $300-$500 an hour or more, and a case like this requires hundreds of hours—big bucks. A quality psychiatrist who knows how to testify could cost $500-$1,000 an hour, including court testimony. Neither Luna nor Poppy could afford that, and even if Poppy could, I doubt she’d pay for it, considering how furious she is after Luna tried to frame her for Tom Star and bartender Hollis’ murders.
Luna’s facing serious charges, including attempted murder of Steffy Forrester—locking her in a cage and waiting for a building to collapse on her. Bill Spencer can afford all of this, and Luna has two reasons to reach out to him. He’s her only shot at avoiding life in prison, and she’s still disturbingly infatuated with him. I doubt Poppy’s free-spirited, hippie lifestyle fully explains Luna’s behavior. If Poppy was using serious drugs while pregnant, that could shed light on Luna’s sociopathic tendencies. Luna’s crocodile tears and pitiful act in front of Poppy were contrasted by her evil smile when her mom left.
With Aaron D. Spears confirming Justin’s return, the question is: what will his storyline be? The last time we saw him, he was connected to the murder case at Il Giardino, where Tom Star died. He was randomly there along with other potential suspects like Jack Finnegan and Lee Finnegan. Dollar Bill was furious at Justin for betraying him and attempting to take over Spencer Publications, leaving Bill and Liam in jail during the Vinnie incident. Despite that betrayal, they seem to have mended fences.
Justin’s return is likely tied to Bill and a legal matter, possibly related to Carter’s new schemes or something involving Ridge Forrester. But I can’t shake the feeling that Bill might ask Justin to evaluate Luna’s case. Bill may want to know if there’s any defense worth pursuing or if it’s hopeless. And before dismissing the idea that Luna could walk free, remember: Sheila Carter is living her best life with Deacon Sharpe despite her monstrous past, including trying to kill Finn and Steffy.
I’m excited to see Luna back because good villains are rare on Bold, especially with Sheila’s forced redemption arc. Now, we also have Remy, the stalker after Electra Forrester, potentially threatening Will’s safety, and Carter Walton possibly heading into his own villain phase to steal Forrester Creations.
Could Bill fund Justin’s effort to free Luna, unwittingly unleashing her obsessive behavior on him? If anyone could get Luna back on the streets, it’s Justin Barber. And if that happens, those kisses Luna shared with Bill might just be the beginning of more trouble.
Stay tuned for more updates, and keep an eye out for Justin Barber’s return. I’ll share his return date as soon as I know. Thanks for being a loyal listener. Follow us wherever you get your podcasts so you don’t miss an episode. Soap Dirt is on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeartRadio, and more!
