Is it just us, or does General Hospital’s Anna seem like someone who would never hook up with her daughter’s ex? And yet, here we are—with her locking lips with Jason.
Yes, he and Robin have been over for ages, and Anna’s daughter has barely even been seen for the last decade. But history is still history, and Anna is still Robin’s mom. So, when she and Jason kissed while imprisoned by Sidwell and about to be put to death, we were shocked. Fans were shocked. Heck, Finola Hughes was shocked!
She admitted that during a recent interview with Soap Opera Digest. Hughes also said she wasn’t entirely sure what brought it on:
“But I think it’s something that just happens. It’s motivated by a lot of things, and we discussed it at length—Steve and me.”
Anna and Jason have both been in tough situations before. They’ve both nearly died before. Heck, they’ve both been thought dead before, thanks to how much danger they’ve been in. Hughes explained:
“We tried to figure out ways to play with our own psyches as to how we were coping with what was going on.”
She added that she and Burton discussed it extensively:
“We discussed all sorts of things because, you know, it’s not their first barbecue. But there is something different about these circumstances.”
In the end, they leaned into the believability Carlos brought to Sidwell and the certainty Anna and Jason felt that, yes, we were going to die. More so than in other situations—although, again, they’ve both come so close to death before that they’ve been declared dead. Funerals have even been held for them.
Still, no matter what happens next, Hughes is ready.
“I’m very interested to see how it’s going to play out.”
Same! Because, expected or not, the kiss happened. And now, all that’s left is to see if it was a one-off or will lead to something more. Because we all know that in daytime… a kiss is never just a kiss.
