Beloved Y&R Star Dead at 78, Multi Soap Alum Dead at 65
It’s a heartbreaking loss for the soap industry and us all as multi-soap alum Mark Dobies has sadly passed away. So let’s take a moment to remember his legacy and get into the details of this tragic news.
Hey everyone, welcome to Trend Street. If you’re a longtime soap fan, you’ve probably seen Mark Dobies light up the screen on Guiding Light and One Life to Live.
Born on April 3rd, 1959, in Philadelphia, PA, Dobies wasn’t always in the acting game. He started out as a football star, earning a scholarship to Delaware Valley University. An all-around athlete, he took on triathlons and even worked as a personal trainer before making the leap into acting.
His first big break came in 1997 when he landed a role in the drama series Fame LA. A few years later, in 2000, he stepped into the soap world with Guiding Light, playing Noah Chase—a doctor turned government agent who got romantically entangled with Reeba.
But it was his role as Daniel Coulson on One Life to Live from 2003 to 2005 that really made waves. Daniel was a district attorney who married Nora, only for fans to later learn that he was not only a murderer but also secretly gay—something that was a huge storyline for daytime TV at the time. That’s not all—he also reprised this role in an episode of All My Children.
Sadly, Dobies’ life was cut short. According to a local obituary, he passed away on March 11th in Dunellen, New Jersey, at the age of 65. While the cause of death wasn’t disclosed, he was remembered as a loving father, accomplished athlete, and talented actor who lived with passion, perseverance, and love.
He is now survived by his three children—Francesca, Olivia, and Robert—as well as his mother, Suzanne, and his siblings.
While the soap world is still reeling from the death of Mark Dobies, another tragedy has struck. Wings Hauser, a soap veteran and beloved former Y&R cast member, passed away on March 15th at the age of 78. Wings made a lasting impression on Y&R after landing the role of attorney Greg Foster, the brother of Jill Foster, who went on to become Nikki’s first husband.
The actor is survived by a daughter from his first marriage, Yellowstone actor Cole Hauser, and his fourth wife, Callie Liy Houser.
It’s already been a tough year as so many soap alums have tragically passed away.
